The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children is an ecumenical ministry whose mission is to ease the burden of homelessness for women and children by providing basic and daily necessities while respecting their human dignity. Women and children seek refuge at this shelter for a variety of reasons: lost jobs, eviction, estrangement from family, escape from abusive relationships, and many other tragic circumstances. The Shelter is a Christian organization whose basis and foundation is the love of God and is supported by many different churches, businesses, organizations, and individuals. is committed to assisting individuals in their resettlement and independence. The Atlanta Day Shelter offers a secure place where the anonymous are called by name and are loved and respected. Through the dedicated efforts of professional counselors, staff, and volunteers over 6,000 women and children annually have been assisted towards more independent and productive lifestyles. As a result of the many services and resources that flow through this ministry, many women and their children now occupy their own homes instead of living in the shelters.
